Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer claim they've 'heard a little rumor' about Jurgen Klopp's next job after Liverpool

England greats Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have stated that outgoing Liverpool manager could move to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund as their president in the future.

Klopp, who was named as the Reds boss in October 2015, wrapped up his brilliant stint at Anfield with a triumph in his final match this Sunday (May 19). The 56-year-old tactician helped the Merseyside club finish third in the 2023-24 Premier League table with 82 points.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker stated that he has come across a rumor about Klopp potentially becoming BVB's next president. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona star said (h/t TBR):

"I will be interested to see what Jurgen Klopp does next. I think he will definitely take some time out because I think he's genuine when he says he has run out of energy. You can see why that job is so demanding. There will be a battle for him or they'll be lining up in a year's time. I heard a little rumor that he might end up being president of Borussia Dortmund, which would be amazing."

Shearer, who played for Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers, said:

"I heard the same, yeah."

Klopp, who helped Liverpool lift eight trophies as their manager, spent seven years at Dortmund between 2008 and 2015. He coached them to two Bundesliga titles, a DFB-Pokal crown, and two DFL-Supercups.

Jurgen Klopp opines on how Liverpool fans should welcome likely successor Arne Slot

Following his team's 2-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp marked his farewell by chanting the name of likely successor Arne Slot. The German opined afterwards (h/t Sky Sports):

"You welcome the new manager like you welcome me. You go all in from the first day. And you keep believing and you push the team. Change is good. We decide if we are worried or excited. We decide if we believe. We decide if we trust or don't trust and since today I am one of you and I keep believing in you."

Slot, who is yet to be announced as Liverpool's next manager, claimed that he will succeed Klopp earlier this Friday. He also received a grand farewell by Feyenoord fans after managing his final match for them.

An ex-AZ Alkmaar boss, Slot helped Feyenoord lift one Eredivisie title and a KNVB Beker crown between 2021 and 2024. The 45-year-old also guided the Dutch team to one UEFA Europa Conference League final.
