"One of the most successful players in PL history": Ex-PL star unhappy with Mohamed Salah treatment, believes Liverpool star 'deserves more respect'

Former Aston Villa right-back Ahmed Elmohamady has reacted to the heated exchange between Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah of West Ham United during the game on Saturday (April 27).

Salah was benched for the game against the Hammers due to his recent run-of-the-mill performances. The squabble between Klopp and the Egyptian erupted on the touchline shortly after David Moyes' team scored to grab a 2-2 draw. The 31-year-old was about to be subbed on before words Salah was seen speaking in Klopp's direction with raised arms.

Darwin Nunez diffused the situation before it turned ugly. However, after the match, when Mohamed Salah was asked to comment on the issue, he said there would be "fire" if he delved into the incident.

"If I speak there will be fire," he said (via BBC).

Reacting to the incident, former captain of the Egypt national team Elmohamady said (via TBR Football):

"One of the most successful players in the PL history deserves more respect. Honestly."

Here's what the German gaffer said when he was asked to comment on the spat (via TNT Sports):

"We spoke already in the dressing room. For me, that’s done."

Mohamed Salah might've not had the best of games in the last few weeks, but he has scored 24 goals across all competitions and provided 13 assists in 41 games this season. However, he was benched for the second time in the last three games.

The argument between Klopp and Mohamed Salah is perhaps indicative of the end of the Reds' journey this season, given the German gaffer will leave the club at the end of the campaign.

The push for a quadruple of trophies ended following Liverpool's 3-0 loss to Atalanta in the Europa League on April 11. The Reds also suffered a 4-3 loss to Manchester United in the quarter-final of the FA Cup on March 17.

The three-horse race for the Premier League title also seems to have ended with Liverpool's 2-2 draw against West Ham United on Saturday (April 27). The Reds are third on the PL table with 75 points after 35 games. Arsenal are first with 77 points after 34 games while City occupy the second spot with 76 points after 33 games.

Liverpool face Champions League spot-chasing Tottenham Hotspur on May 5 and will be hoping to win their remaining games to give a befitting send-off to Jurgen Klopp.
