Tata Martino confirms Lionel Messi's Inter Miami teammate is set to return from injury

Lionel Messi's Inter Miami teammate Federico Redondo is set to return from injury, according to manager Gerardo 'Tata' Martino. The Argentine manager spoke about Redondo's fitness ahead of their MLS game with Vancouver on Saturday (May 25).

The 21-year-old has played a rather small part in Inter Miami's impressive season so far. He has played just two league games, providing one assist. He picked up a torn lateral knee ligament in March, which has seen him miss 11 games.

Now, almost two months later, the midfielder looks to be back to fitness and could even make an appearance against Vancouver. Martino told the press (via Inter Miami News):

“In the case of Fede [Redondo], if he doesn’t travel to Vancouver this weekend, he will be fully ready for Atlanta afterwards.”

This will be brilliant news for the Florida-based club, who are excited about Redondo's potential. The midfielder will be hoping to return to form and join Lionel Messi to lead the club to the MLS playoffs this season.

Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi included in Argentina's 29-man roster

With the Copa America looming this summer, countries have begun to release their rosters for upcoming friendlies. Argentina are set to face Ecuador and Guatemala in the second week of June, and Lionel Messi looks set to be a part of these fixtures.

The legendary playmaker was included in the roster, and he's widely expected to be a part of their Copa America squad when it's announced on June 15 (via ESPN). He was a huge part of their FIFA World Cup-winning squad in Qatar in 2022 and will likely look to lead them to glory once more.

There had been uncertainties around Lionel Messi's future with Argentina. But when Albiceleste head coach Lionel Scaloni was asked about it, he said (via Marca):

"I told Leo that he was happy on the pitch, that he should keep playing as long as he can. He showed us that in soccer there are no limits, and that's amazing. ... He can play wherever he wants, and the team is built around him. I think he can continue playing in the national team, but the decision is his."

Messi is still going strong with Inter Miami, bagging 10 goals and nine assists in 10 league games.
