“Thanks for thinking of us on your special day” - Liverpool owner’s wife responds to Manchester City’s alleged ‘this means more’ jibe

Liverpool owner John Henry's wife Linda Pizzuti has hit back at Manchester City's apparent social media dig. The Cityzens celebrated their fourth Premier League title in a row yesterday (May 19).

The club's social media team uploaded an intriguing post on X (formerly Twitter), seemingly trying to troll the Reds. They stated:

"This means more."

Four trophy emoticons accompanied this to acknowledge their fourth title in a row feat. The phrase echoes that of Trent Alexander-Arnold's controversial claim that that trophy success meant more to Liverpool.

Pizzuti responded to Manchester City's post by sarcastically suggesting that the Premier League champions were obsessed with the Merseysiders. She wrote on her Instagram story:

"A sincere congratulations to Man City - Premier League champions! So much respect for this tremendous achievement... Thanks for thinking of us on your special day."

The Merseysiders were in the title race until mid-April when Jurgen Klopp's farewell tour came off the boil. They suffered shock defeats to Crystal Palace (1-0) and Everton (2-0).

Manchester City became the first club in English football history to win four consecutive titles. Pep Guardiola's men finished two points above Arsenal who pushed them closest.

Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for Pep Guardiola.

Klopp oversaw his final game in charge of Liverpool with a 2-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday. The German gave a glowing assessment of Manchester City boss Guardiola as he departed (via liverpool.com):

"No matter what has transpired at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world - and that is truly significant. If you put any other manager in that club, they don't win the league four times in a row. That's down to him and his team."

Guardiola has won six titles since arriving at the Etihad in July 2016 and guided the Cityzens to the continental treble last season. His men can finish with a double this time around if they beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 25.

However, this success comes amid 115 charges for breaching Financial Fairplay years ago. They are accused of failing to provide accurate financial information from 2009 to 2018.

Guardiola has a year left on his contract and is set to see that out despite a verdict over those charges likely to come by the end of the year. Klopp is the only reason the Spaniard hasn't won seven titles in nine years as Liverpool prevailed in 2020.
