Martial has had an up and down season

Ligue 1 holders Paris Saint-Germain are eyeing a sensational swoop for Manchester United youngster, Anthony Martial. The French forward has failed to book a place in the starting line-up and a move back to France could be alluring.

Martial, who was United’s top scorer last season, has fallen out of favour under new manager Jose Mourinho. He has not been able to replicate his form this season at Old Trafford.

According to the Sun, French giants PSG are willing to break the bank in a bid to land the 20-year-old. A United source has implied that the Paris-based club could be the suitors if United decide to sell Martial as he said, “It is well known PSG are very keen if the club does consider selling. He has been dropped recently against Feyenoord and West Ham and has generally struggled for form.”

PSG have been long-term admirers of the French international and wanted to sign him from AS Monaco in 2015. But Martial joined the 20-time Premier League champions for a fee of £36million.

PSG want to bring Martial back to Ligue 1 with a sensational bid and his apparent fall-out with Mourinho could certainly help the cause. The Portuguese manager has already warned Martial that he has to fight for his career at Old Trafford and his chances are numbered.

Mourinho had said, “You have one opportunity, you have two, you have three if you don’t bite then somebody comes and takes the bait.

“Anthony was OK for Feyenoord. I cannot play with 12 players. The players have to win their positions. They are friends, they are colleagues who work together every day but in the end, they compete among themselves to have more chance to play.”

Martial seems to have responded brilliantly by scoring a brace in last night’s EFL Cup victory over West Ham United. He has so far made 13 appearances for United but has failed to start regularly.

Last season, Martial did prove his mettle under former Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal as he guided them to FA Cup triumph in an otherwise dismal season. Given that he is so young and full of potential, any move involving Martial would not be cheap. PSG would have to dig deep into their pockets if they want to sign the French sensation.
