Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has praised the transfer of Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea after the Spanish international completed his move from Barcelona to the Blues.

The deal was announced earlier this afternoon, ahead of the World Cup’s opening game between Brazil and Croatia this evening, and Fabregas has signed a five-year deal with Chelsea.

He was told earlier in the summer that he was free to leave Barcelona as they looked at other options in midfield with Luis Enrique taking over from Gerard Martino in the dugout.

Fabregas was tipped to join Arsenal originally as the Gunners had a buy-back option on the Spaniard, but rejected the chance to bring him back to north London.

Instead, he has joined Chelsea for a fee of around £30 million and is set to be joined by his Spanish team-mate, Diego Costa.

Cech, who may well lose his place at Chelsea next season, is more than happy at the signing of Fabregas.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Cech said: “He’s a great player with a lot of experience of playing in England and the Premier League so it’s a great addition to the team.”

Fabregas spent eight years at Arsenal and has angered a lot of fans for making the move to local rivals Chelsea.
