PSG not ready to let go of Thiago Silva

Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelafi has rubbished reports regarding the sale of Brazilian footballer Thiago Silva to La Liga giants Barcelona and said that they are instead looking at acquiring a number of Barcelona players.

Barcelona, who concluded their last season as champions, are eagerly eyeing Silva as one of the measures to strengthen their already water-tight defence, on the road leading up to the forthcoming season.

On the other hand, Al-Khelafi has done away with the idea of trading the 28-year-old footballer and instead counters by stating that the French club are not through yet with their own purchases.

“Thiago will not leave for Barcelona. He has a four-year contract left,” he told RMC Sport.

“He will line up for us against Bordeaux for the Trophee des Champions on August 3. So he will definitely be with us. But we, on the other hand, are following some Barca players.

“Transfers are not finished for PSG this summer. We will go for another player.

“Marquinhos [from Roma] and [Lille's Lucas] Digne? Those are two young players. We are discussing with their clubs right now. We’re just discussing. There is no agreement in place.”

The announcement of Al-Khelafi came just in the wake of PSG’s grab of Uruguayan forward Edison Cavani from Napoli.
