Real Madrid legend Paco Gento demands more of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale

Paco Gento
Gento is considered one of the greatest Spanish players of all time

Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are arguably the two best players Real Madrid have, and also two of the best in the world. But a former great of Real Madrid is not completely satisfied with their contribution to the team.

Paco Gento was part of a glorious era in Madrid’s history when the team conquered Spain and Europe on several occasions. Gento mainly played as a left winger and wore the white of Madrid from 1953-1971 making 438 appearances.

Gento appreciated the quality that Ronaldo and Bale possess but demanded they contribute more to the team. Speaking to AS he said,“They are two excellent players and few are like them. If they linked up more and helped the team, maybe we'd win more.”

The 1966 European Cup final

The 82-year-old was felicitated at the Foro Luis de Carlo which is an event that takes place in the City. He took the time to speak at the event where he talked about the memories of his playing days.

Gento is the only player in the history of the game to have won 6 European Cups. The last of those trophies was in 1966. Gento recalled that special night. “That '66 final was special as no-one thought we were going to win and we won the admiration of the world after that game.”

Ronaldo had a slow start to the season in the league and several felt he had passed his peak but the Portuguese once again proved everyone wrong by crossing the 30-goal mark in the league for the nth time in his career.

Gareth Bale has also had his most productive season in terms of goals return. The Welshman has 19 in just 22 matches which is also the fastest rate he has scored at in his Madrid career.

Sadly for the winger, he has suffered several injuries during the season and has consequently missed crucial matches for the Los Blancos. Gento was probably pointing out the fact that Ronaldo and Bale are better individual players than team players.

Real Madrid have the chance to lift the La Liga title if Barcelona lose their final game of the season and Real win theirs. Atletico dropped out of the race on Sunday after they suffered a shock defeat to Levante.

Real also have the chance to win their 11th European Cup/Champions League if they ca beat their crosstown rivals in the final at Milan.
