According to the reports, Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is set a sign a new contract with the club. His current contract with the Spanish club will expire in 2020 and he has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu in the last few weeks.

Joined from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, Luka Modric struggled to adjust during his initial few years at the club and was labelled as a flop by many fans and pundits. However, his performances start improving with time and the Croat has been a crucial cog in Real Madrid's success in recent years.

The 33-year old played 290 games in all competitions for the Los Blancos thus far and helped the team win four Champions League trophies, solitary La Liga title, along with one Copa del Rey and three FIFA Club World Cups.

He was the recipient of Ballon d'Or 2018 accolade and was also included in the FIFA FIFPro World XI on four different occasions.

The heart of the matter

According to the reports by Marca, an agreement has been reached between Luka Modric and Real Madrid to increase his contract until June 30, 2021.

The reports also claim that the midfielder never considered leaving the club despite being linked with Inter Milan during the recent weeks.

Despite being 33, Modric is still an important player for Real Madrid and is likely to extend his stay at the Bernabeu Stadium. He played 23 LaLiga games thus far, scoring two and assisting four goals.
