Reports: Sergio Ramos calls Gerard Pique over tweet mocking Real Madrid

Ramos is reportedly miffed with Pique over the latter’s salvo at Real Madrid

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has reportedly called Barcelona defender Gerard Pique to seek an explanation over the latter’s tweet mocking Real Madrid. Ramos is believed to have taken offense to Pique’s antics on the social media.

Earlier, the Blaugrana defender had taken a swipe at Real Madrid over their disqualification from the Copa del Rey after it was found that Los Blancos had fielded an ineligible player for their fourth round match against third-tier side Cadiz on Wednesday.

As reports of Real Madrid’s blunder started doing the rounds, Pique seemed to have a hearty laugh at the expense of Real Madrid.

It was reported that Pique responded to Ramos saying, “You know me, I found it funny.”

Pique has had a history of entanglements with Real Madrid. He has been on the wrong side of the Madrid faithful ever since he took a dig at Cristiano Ronaldo while celebrating Barcelona’s Champions League triumph last season. He has been on the receiving end of consistent abuse from the Real Madrid fans.

Only recently, Pique was roundly booed by fans while he represented the Spanish national side in open training sessions and International friendlies.

However, it would seem that the hostile treatment from fans has failed to keep Pique from trolling the Madrid giants.

Ramos and Pique have been at loggerheads many a time

Ramos and Pique have had their share of differences in the past. The pair, who play together in the heart of the Spanish national side’s defense, appear to have a strictly professional relationship.

Their frosty relationship reached a breaking point as their feud was on the front pages of the Spanish press in September after Pique suggested Ramos to ‘shut up’ after the latter had publicly criticized him.

The animosity between the pair can also be attributed to the intense rivalry that exists between Real Madrid and Barcelona. There have been plenty of instances when differences over issues regarding the club spilling on to the national setup.

There have been calls for the two defensive stalwarts to mend their relationship for the sake of the national team most notably by legendary former Barcelona goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta. But it would appear that the duo have let their club rivalry run too deep.

However, it will be interesting to see what pans out between the two stars.
