Everton striker Romelu Lukaku admitted that he would not have any issues playing under Jose Mourinho again if it was possible in the near future. The Belgian striker was a was signed by the Merseyside club for a record-breaking £28 million fee but has since been frustrated by the lack of progress at the club.

The Toffees are currently 12th in the table and have been inconsistent under Roberto Martinez after winning just nine times in 29 games this season. They had gone as high as fifth in the table earlier this season but have since fallen by the wayside in what has been a highly competitive season in England.

Lukaku’s father Roger has suggested that Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich and Manchester United could be his next destination if he were to leave Everton. Mourinho was in charge at Chelsea when he accused Lukaku of not fighting for a spot in the starting lineup and eventually took the decision to sell him in the summer of 2014.

Mourinho has recently been linked to the Old Trafford hot seat after reports of the Portuguese manager having signed a pre-contract with the club. And Lukaku has no qualms about working with the 53-year-old boss again.

“Of course,” Lukaku said. “Some people will say that I need to convince him but it’s not a question of that.

“Three years ago I was 20 and I wasn’t ready to be immediately effective in a top team.

“Several good seasons, including the current one, have changed the situation. I’ll be 23 [on 13 May] and I could leave this summer.”

Lukaku on playing for either Bayern or United

Lukaku has had a successful season on a personal level despite Everton’s struggles. The striker has scored 25 goals in all competitions so far, including 18 in the Premier League alone – only behind Harry Kane (21 goals) and Jamie Vardy (19 goals).

When asked to comment on his father’s preferred destination of either Bayern Munich or the Red Devils, Lukaku said: “I understand why he said that. When I was small, they were two teams that impressed me with their attacking strength.

“Then they’re teams that he likes a lot,” he continued. “We’ll see what happens. Whatever happens, it’s always nice to be linked with such clubs.

“That’s the proof that they’re watching me. The rest is my agent’s business.”

When asked about a possible return to Chelsea, Lukaku was quick to respond, saying: “No, absolutely not. The page has turned on both sides.”
