Rumour: Liverpool and Chelsea target Xabi Alonso declares he is staying put

The Real Madrid star has quashed all speculation, after he declared that he is ready to commit his future to the Los Blancos. This comes as a blow to Liverpool and Chelsea, who were reportedly keen on securing the services of the midfielder.

The 32-year old’s contract at the Bernebeu is due to expire next July, and with him yet to sign a contract extension, speculation was rife of him possibly jumping ship in the transfer window.

The defensive midfielder has seen limited first team chances this season, as he nurses himself back after a long layoff due to injury. Luka Modric grabbed his opportunity in the interim, which has seen the Spaniard on the bench for most of this season.

Xabi Alonso has started only 5 games in the La Liga this season, and is yet to score or assist this campaign.
