Rumour: Liverpool could hijack Arsenal’s move for stylish La Liga forward

Liverpool are attempting to block Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata‘s loan move to Premier League rivals Arsenal, according to The Metro.

The North Londoners have been linked with Morata as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his front line following the injuries to Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner. Olivier Giroud is nearing full fitness but doubts remain whether he can carry Arsenal’s goalscoring burden as they fight to end their trophy drought on three fronts.

The Spanish giants have been reluctant to allow the Spaniard leave on loan in the past and Tottenham also failed to tempt Morata to White Hart Lane in the summer as part of Gareth Bale’s transfer. But as he has slid further down the pecking order Carlo Ancelotti has reconsidered and may be willing to accept that game time elsewhere will assist the youngster’s development.

With a rumoured £2 million enough to take the Spanish U-21 for the remainder of the season Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers has also turned his attentions to the Madrid striker due to complications over his attempted move to bring Basel forward Mohamed Salah to Merseyside.

Rodgers is desperate to strengthen his attack with an over reliance on Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge only just returning to fitness after a lay-off, but may well have to go head to head with his Premier League counterpart if the deal is to be successfully negotiated.

Nine of Alvaro Morata’s ten appearances this season have come from the substitutes bench. However, he does have a shot accuracy of 69% this term.
