Rumour: Manchester United set to bid for Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon

Manchester United have been tipped to launch a bid for Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon in the summer, according to the Metro.

United manager David Moyes has anywhere between £150million and £300m to spend in the summer depending on what source you read and has earmarked Lennon as a potential target, as his squad is apparently short on wingers with inconsistent crossing abilities.

Moyes had wanted Lennon whilst he was at Everton, but found Spurs unwilling to sell the pacy midfielder at the time and with Lennon still a key part of their first-team, he is likely to find a similar wall blocking any such ideals.

The newspaper continues to point out further potential stumbling blocks, namely the bad blood that exists between the two clubs over the handling of the Dimitar Berbatov transfer in 2008, with Spurs still unhappy about the way United went about recruiting the Bulgarian striker.

Further squabbles eschewed in the summer over Spurs’ signing of Zeki Fryers from Standard Liege, just six months after he was released to the Belgian club, with United feeling they had been duped into not receiving a tribunal fee for their youth product.

United however could (won’t) test the water with a bid in the summer, in order to replace Antonio Valencia, who could be one of the dozen players ditched by the Red Devils in the summer.

Aaron Lennon has created 26 chances for Tottenham Hotspur this season, more than any midfielder in United’s squad. The Spurs star has just one assist.
