In what is set to be a busy transfer window, Manchester United have today been linked with yet another midfield player – Porto’s Lucho Gonzalez. United came under fire for their lack of summer transfer activity and have endured a torrid start to the season that has left them ninth in the table.

A midfielder is believed to be top of their shopping list, and The Express report that manager David Moyes was at Porto’s final Champions League group stage fixture – a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid – in order to watch both Gonzalez and Atletico midfielder Koke.

Whilst Koke has been consistently linked with United over the last year, Gonzalez is a new rumour doing the rounds. At 33, the Argentine would be a stop gap rather than a permanent solution for United’s midfield, but would provide an experienced head for David Moyes to call upon.

Moyes was reportedly keen on signing former Marseille midfielder Gonzalez when Everton manager, and could be set to spring a surprise and bring him to Old Trafford.

A move for Koke would be less surprising. The 21-year-old midfielder has made 15 league appearances this season and has been a key factor in Atletico’s excellent start to the season. He has scored three goals ad contributed eight assists to help Atletico to second in La Liga.
