Sergio Ramos jokes about how he should have been sent off earlier in El Clasico

Sergio Ramos is one cheeky player

Sergio Ramos has joked that had he'd known Real Madrid would attack more after going down to 10 men, he'd have tried to be sent off earlier. The Spaniard was sent off late in the second half for a second bookable offence condemning Real Madrid to 10 men for the remaining few minutes.

The Los Blancos beat arch-rivals, Barcelona, at the Camp Nou 2-1 thanks to a superb performance from the whole team, Ramos included. With this win, the difference in the table comes down to 7 points with Atletico Madrid between the two teams. However, Ramos feels there are still enough games to overturn the lead and maybe even win the title.

"Madrid are obliged to win," Ramos said. "There are still many points in play. And Cris' goal showed those who were doing all the talking."

"We did them plenty of damage on the break, with one player less," he said. "If I had realised what would happen with one player less, that we'd have won with the sending off, I'd have got myself sent off in the fifth minute."

This victory comes as a massive boost for the Madrid team after they lost 4-0 to the Catalans earlier this season with Rafael Benitez in charge. Ramos, though, feels that this win was coming.

"The good thing about football is it gives you a chance for revenge," Ramos said. "You must always keep your feet on the ground. Our fans deserved this after so much suffering. It was important to arrive here at our best level."

"This is a way to recover our confidence, a prize," Ramos said. "We are working very hard to do something important this season. We are on the right line."

Real Madrid now have the task of progressing to final rounds of the UEFA Champions League as they prepare to take on German giants, Wolfsburg starting this midweek.
