With Alvaro Morata and Oliver Giroud struggling to score goals on a regular basis this season, Chelsea are in the transfer market searching for a new centre-forward.

AC Milan's Gonzalo Higuain is being linked with a move to the Blues since the last few weeks and many reports are even stating that the deal is all but done. The Argentine forward enjoyed a spell with Maurizio Sarri at Napoli and could reunite with the Italian at the Stamford Bridge.

However, at 31, he is beyond his prime now and is not the striker he once used to be. His performances for AC Milan are less than convincing so far this season and he is struggling to find any consistency. He has scored six goals in 15 Serie A games this season, which is just one goal more than what Alvaro Morata scored for the Blues in the league this season.

Moreover, there are a number of other options for Chelsea to look at and so the Blues should ditch their plans of signing the former Real Madrid striker in order to sign a younger and more in-form striker.

Right on this note, here is the list of three strikers Chelsea should sign instead of Gonzalo Higuain.

#3 Callum Wilson

The Englishman has been a consistent performer for AFC Bournemouth ever since their promotion to the English Premier League and is now ready for a move to a bigger club.

Callum Wilson is a strong, aggressive and determined striker who gives everything on the football pitch. He is an exceptional header of the ball and is equally good with both feet.

The Bournemouth striker doesn't offer much in the creative sense but with the likes of Eden Hazard, Willan, and Mateo Kovacic creating chances for him, we can expect to be scoring a lot of goals in the Blue shirt.

He has scored 28 goals in 81 Premier League games for the Cherries thus far and is the club's leading goalscorer (9 goals) in the Premier League this season. His performances for the club also impressed Gareth Southgate, who gave him his first international cap in 2018.

He has been linked with a move to the London based club in recent weeks and the Coventry born striker is a younger and Premier League proven option available to the Blues.

#2 Timo Werner

RB Leipzig's Timo Werner is among the most promising youngsters in the world and is a much younger option, that could be available for Chelsea.

He started his professional career with VfB Stuttgart and is the club's youngest debutant and goalscorer in the Bundesliga. Werner stayed for three years in Mercedez-Benz Arena, scoring 13 goals in 95 Bundesliga games.

In 2016, he transferred to RB-Leipzig for a then club-record transfer fee of €10 million and is a regular goalscorer for the club since then. He finished as the Bulls' leading goalscorer in all competitions during his debut season and repeated that feat last season as well.

He has continued his remarkable growth this season as well and has already registered 11 goals and two assists in 17 Bundesliga games. Werner is also a regular starter for the German National football team and has represented his country on 23 different occasions.

Quick, hard-working and technically sound, the young German possesses all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League and could be the answer to Chelsea's woes. He is also more versatile than the Argentine and will let Sarri experiment more with his tactics in the re-building phase at the club.

#1 Mauro Icardi

Instead of signing Gonzalo Higuain, Chelsea should shift their attention towards another Serie A star and try to sign Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan.

The Argentine international often got overlooked by his national team selectors due to the presence of Lionel Messi and other big superstars in the team, however, his form in league football is sensational and he is scoring goals for fun from quite a long time now.

Mauro Icardi has finished above Gonzalo Higuain on the Serie A goalscoring chart three times in the last four years and scored more goals than his countrymen this season as well. Furthermore, he has also got age on his side in comparison to Gonzalo Higuain as he is just 26-years-old.

The Inter Milan striker is a natural goalscorer, capable of scoring goals out of nothing. His speed and strength make him a constant threat to the opponents' defence and he is intelligent with his runs as well.

The former Sampdoria striker was linked with the Blues numerous times during the last few seasons and it's high time now for the London club to make a move for him before losing him to some other big team.
