Tottenham Hotspur secure future of their most successful passer Kyle Walker

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kyle Walker has signed a new six-year contract at the club, extending his current deal to 2019.

The England international has featured in all 9 of Spurs’ Premier League matches this season.

The 23-year-old signed from Sheffield United for £9 million in 2009, in a deal that also included Kyle Naughton.

After 112 appearances in the Tottenham first team and nailing down a place in England’s defence, Walker is highly rated by the London club who were desperate to tie him down on a long-term deal.

Walker was voted PFA Young Player of the Year in 2012 and missed just two matches last season.

This season, the 23-year-old has won an impressive 13 of his 19 tackles, while he has also won 19 of their 32 headed duels. Furthermore, he has made 15 interceptions.

One of the more underrated parts of Walker’s game is his ability to pass and keep the ball moving. In fact, the 23-year-old has completed more passes than any Spurs player (494 passes).

In his last game against Hull, he completed 78 of his passes, with a pass accuracy of 92%. Furthermore, looking closer at his passes against Hull, it’s clear he looked to switch the flanks continuously, showing his desire to stretch the play.

Only Moussa Dembele has created more chances for Spurs over the past two seasons, creating 58 to Walker’s 56.
