Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has emerged as a target for Tottenham Hotspur who are looking to sell the inconsistent Emmanuel Adebayor, The Independant reports.

Adebayor, who earns £100,00 a week, has become a liability at Tottenham since he moved to the club from Manchester City in 2012. Jermaine Defoe and new signing Roberto Solado are Andre Villas-Boas’s first choice strikers.

According to the Evening Standard Turkish club Besiktas are interested in acquiring the services of Adebayor, who was set to leave White Hart Lane this year but the moves fell through due to the exorbitant fees demanded by the former Arsenal hitman.

Rumour has it that the Togo international, who has played in the Premier League as well as the La Liga, wants a new challenge in one of the top Leagues in Europe.

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas wants to add another striker to his clubs ranks and sees Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez as a perfect fit for the club. Adebayor, who had a prolific 2012-2013 season, has failed to find the same form this term.

The 29-year-old has fallen out of favour with Andre Villas-Boas, who has restricted the striker to the bench. The recent passing of Adebayor’s brother saw him granted leave of compassionate grounds by the club.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester City forward initially trained with Tottenham’s development squad before making a comeback to the first team. Adebayor’s Spurs team-mate Jermaine Defoe feels that his colleagues best years are ahead of him.

Defoe said, “He is someone that we’re going to need. Hopefully he will be back soon with the team.”

Meanwhile Javier Hernandez has stated that he is eager to be a regular starter for United but admitted that he may have to leave the club in order to get more first team football.

“I strive for that, I am working towards that; earning a spot as a starter,” Hernandez told Mexican TV station Deportes Telemundo.

“I am going on four years here at Manchester United and, like I have always said, I am happy to be able to play for one of the best clubs in the world.

“I am happy, doing my best every single day to earn more minutes on the pitch.

“All of us want to be able to contribute our part so this team can win championships.

“I know my performance on the pitch will allow me to achieve that goal some day either here [in Manchester] or elsewhere for any other club.

“I just need to be given more opportunities to showcase what I can do.”
