Valencia interested in Fernando Torres

Europa League Final - SL Benfica v Chelsea FC

Spanish newspaper Superdeporte reports that Valencia are in touch with Chelsea regarding the potential purchase of striker Fernando Torres.

It seems likely that Valencia may lose key striker Roberto Soldado to Tottenham Hotspur for around £26m, and the club believes Torres would be a perfect replacement for the 28-year-old.

Torres has not been in the best of form for Chelsea, with most sections of fans and media claiming that he is not worth the £50m that Chelsea paid for him in 2011, making it the most expensive British transfer of all time till date.

With young Belgian Romelu Lukaku pushing for a first-team place after a fantastic season for West Bromich Albion, and with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho having declared his interest in unsettled Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, it seems unlikely that Torres will be assured a place in the starting line-up – a fact that Valencia would like to exploit.

Torres has scored a total of 34 goals in 134 appearances for Chelsea in his tenure at the London club, a far cry from his hey-days at Liverpool, where he scored 81 goals in 142 appearances.
