Santos capture first win of the Brazilian Serie A season with hard-fought 1-0 win again fellow strugglers Atletico Mineiro to the Estadio Urbano Caldeira on Wednesday.

Santos welcomed Atletico Mineiro on Wednesday – hoping for their first win of the new Brazilian Serie A season.
The hosts went into the match bottom of the league and with just two points from four games, Mineiro weren’t sitting much a better, a lowly 16th place.
However Santos stated their intent with the game just minutes old.
After their initial attack had wilted Santos calmly passed the ball around the chasing Mineiro defence before 28 year-old playmaker Cícero whipped in a swerving strike that baffled the goalkeeper before settling in the back of the net.
Santos continued to push forward and almost doubled their lead before the half was over – however Victor made a fantsatic save to keep the scoreline at 1-0 going into the break.
Chances were few and far between following the interval – but the best of the half fell to the visitors.
However, Leandro Donizete’s long range drive flashed wide of the post.
Marcos Rocha received his marching orders inside the final ten minutes for a cynical foul to deny Neilton a chance at goal.
They didn’t add anymore goals but Santos hung on to claim their first win of the season.
