Paris Saint-Germain striker and Sweden international, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has stated there is a possibility that he might retire at the end of the 2015-16 football season.
The 34-year-old Swedish forward has been in fine form since his arrival at PSG from AC Milan back in 2012. Ibrahimovic has found the back of the net 102 times in 116 league appearances.
Not only that, the French giants, Paris Saint-Germain have gone on to clinch each and every league title after they bought Ibrahimovic from AC Milan in 2012 for almost 20 million Euros, which is a commendable feat.
However, with his contract at the Parc des Princes set to expire at the end of this season, a lot of speculation has risen regarding the next destination of the charismatic 34-year-old centre-forward.
As reported by Fotbollskanalen, in a recent interview given to TV4, Zlatan said, “This season I played poker and went all-in. I could have had a catastrophic season, and then I would have been fishing for a club just by being Ibrahimovic. But now clubs are fishing for Ibrahimovic.”
When asked about the number of clubs who are “fishing for Ibrahimovic”, the former AC Milan man answered, “There are many clubs that are fishing. I just have to see how big the bait is on the hook. It has to be a d*mn big bait.
“A lot of factors have to fit. Not just football-wise, but off the pitch as well. It's the first time I am in this situation where I am not dependent on a third party. It's like a marriage, it's two parties. Both parties have to want it just as much, then it's a perfect match. We'll have to see how much the other party wants it. But the future looks good. It could be that I retire, nobody has thought of that,” added the Sweden international.
Paris Saint-Germain have already sealed the French Ligue 1 title with seven more game weeks to go. They are gearing up to take on Manchester City at the quarter-final stage of the UEFA Champions League. The fixture is going to be extremely important for Ibrahimovic as the Champions League is the one trophy that he is yet to get his hands on in club football.
With the first leg of the fixture set to take place at the Parc des Princes stadium, the Swedish legend has not ruled out the possibility of retiring from football at the end of the campaign.
“Nobody has thought of the fact that I said a few years ago that Zlatan will go out on top, the way nobody else has. Anything can happen. The best thing is to leave top-level football while you're still on top,” 34-year-old Ibrahimovic told TV4.
