During the Apple versus Epic trial in 2021, someone leaked court documents pertaining to planned collaborations for Fortnite. Out of the many that were showcased, one in particular stood out. It planned to feature John McClane from Die Hard in-game.

Given the timing of things, it was likely that it was being planned to be added as an Icon Series skin for Christmas in Chapter 2 Season 8. However, as luck would have it, Call of Duty developers had a similar idea. They added him to Warzone in May of 2021 as an operator, beating Epic Games to the collaboration.

With him already being present in one of the largest online multiplayer battle royales, bringing him to Fortnite made no sense at the time. Eventually, the collaboration was dropped and all hopes of having John McClane in-game were scrapped; that was until Donald Mustard posted a teaser on social media.

Donald Mustard all but confirms a John McClane skin for Fortnite Winterfest 2022

Donald Mustard, CCO at Epic Games, is known for posting teasers and hints on social media to keep the theorists in the community on the edge of their seats. On December 11, 2022, he posted an image of a scaled-down replica of Nakatomi Plaza with a character falling down the side of the building. The caption on the post read:

"Amazing gift from one of my best friends. And yes, imo (in my opinion) it’s the greatest Christmas movie of all time."

Given that a similar scene is present in Die Hard and the fact that it's a Christmas movie, the reference cannot be confused with anything else. Furthermore, since a collaboration was already planned for 2021, but couldn't be executed, it's no mere coincidence for a post such as this to appear on social media.

According to veteran Fortnite leakers, given how Donald Mustard has a reputation for posting teasers for upcoming collaborations, this one serves a similar purpose. That said, there's nothing in the game files as of yet that showcases cosmetics or assets from the collaboration.

When can fans expect to see the Die Hard collaboration in Fortnite?

Considering Die Hard is a Christmas movie, in all likelihood, the collaboration will occur sometime around the holiday week. If Epic Games stays accurate to the movie's lore, they may add in the cosmetics on December 24, 2022. On that note, it's left to be seen if Bruce Willis will feature as John McClane in-game.

Aside from the skin, there will be several other cosmetic items as well. Since most collaborations contain a full set of cosmetics, players can expect to find a glider, back bling, and perhaps a wrap as well.

For those hoping for a scaled-up version of Nakatomi Plaza in Creative Mode, that's unlikely to happen. With the My Hero Academia collaboration confirmed for December 16, 2022, Creative Mode will likely be used to host a custom map for in-game challenges.

With all that said, readers should take this information with a dash of Slap Juice. Until leakers are able to get hold of the in-game files or confirm the collaboration for Fortnite Winterfest 2022, there's no telling when it may happen.
