The exciting Premier Futsal tournament is set to kick-off tonight at 7pm as hosts Chennai 5s are set to take on Ryan Giggs’ Mumbai 5s in the first game. The tournament promises a few glorious footballers along with proficient futsal stars from around the world paired with some electrifying freestyle moves. A fascinating thing about the tournament is the inclusion of Indian youngsters that could go a long way in building a formidable group of players for the future.
The tournament which begins today will include a number of superstars like Hernan Crespo, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Falcão, Michel Salgado and Ronaldinho. Two groups of three teams each will play a series of games before the top two teams in each group will make it to the semi-finals. The winners of the two semi-finals will face each other in the finals that will take place in Goa on the 24th of July 2016.
Coming to the two teams, Chennai boasts a legend of the game in Falcão who is widely considered to be the Pele of Futsal. Their manager Ney Pereira is another legend of the sport and could be the difference between Chennai and their opponents going forward in the tournament. French freestyler Sean could captivate the fans with his skills and is widely regarded to be one of the top freestylers in the world.
Mumbai on the other has Ryan Giggs leading the line. The Manchester United legend is joined by a contingent influence by Italians with Felice Mastropiero and Brazilian-born Italian player Foglia.
The opening ceremony for the tournament is underway with Mandira Bedi hosting it. Maestro A.R Rahman kicks it off with the anthem of the tournament.
