Backbone has launched Backbone One - PlayStation Edition, an Android controller for PS Remote Play. Following up on the success of the iOS edition, the clip-on controller is aimed at playing PS titles via PS Remote Play on your Android phones. It connects with phones using USB Type C and is supported on any device running Android 8.0 or above. Priced at $99 USD, the device is available in selected regions.

Designed to closely resemble the PS5 and its accessories design language, the Backbone One features the PS face button layout of cross, circle, triangle, and square instead of the traditional ABXY.

The Backbone One, along with other Backbone products, is available in the US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. It is expected to be available in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore soon. Interested players can check out the controller on the official Backbone store.

How to use Backbone One - PlayStation Edition to play PS Remote Play games?

The PlayStation Remote Play or PS Remote Play, lets you stream and enjoy your PS4 and PS5 games on supported devices via the cloud, which the title runs on your PS. Originally introduced nearly two decades ago with the PS3 in 2006, the service has evolved to present an almost seamless experience streaming games.

To use the Backbone One on your Android phone, simply plug it into the USB Type C port and launch the PS Remote Play app. It will recognize the device right away. If you're signed in with your PSN account, and your PlayStation is running, you can start playing games right away.

In recent years there has been a resurgence in handheld gaming, thanks in large part to Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck. With devices like the Logitech G Cloud having a dedicated handheld cloud gaming device is also a reality.

Before the smartphone era, Sony competed head-to-head with Nintendo in the handheld market with PSP and the PSVita. Backbone One might just be the successor in pioneering PlayStation's handheld in this generation.
