After the second round of the Sony Open in Hawaii, Carl Yuan, Byeong Hun An, and Austin Eckroat hold a joint one-stroke lead at 9-under. Ben An jumped 17 spots after firing a bogey-free 6-under 64, while Yuan also shot 65 in the second round. Eckroat also shared the lead as he posted a 4-under 66 on his 25th birthday.

However, there were a few disappointments as well at Waialae Country Club. Matt Fitzpatrick, the highest-ranked player in this week's event, crashed out of the tournament after shooting a 1-over 71 on Friday. After round 2 of the Sony Open, the cutline was 2-under, and many big names could not make it to the weekend in Hawaii.

In this article, we will delve into seven prominent names who missed the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Top seven names to miss the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii 2024

1) Matt Fitzpatrick

Besides Brian Harman, Matt Fitzpatrick was the only top-ten-ranked player competing at this year's Sony Open in Hawaii. He started with a 69 in his debut round at the Waialae Country Club and then followed with a 71 to aggregate at an even par after 36 holes.

The 2021 US Open champion could hit just 11 out of 28 fairways and struggled in the putting game. Last week, he finished T14 at the Sentry 2024.

2) Sahith Theegala

Sahith Theegala had a great start to the PGA Tour 2024 season last week when he finished runner-up to Chris Kirk at the Sentry 2024. While Kirk continued his good form, Theegala lost track and missed the weekend at the Sony Open.

He began with a 2-over 72, which meant a lot of work needed to be done on Friday. He tried well after shooting a 3-under 67 but could still aggregate at 1-under to miss the cutline by one shot.

3) Lucas Glover

Lucas Glover began with a 71 in the first round but fired a 68 in the second round to aggregate at 1-under. He missed the cut for the second straight year at Waialae Country Club.

4) Matt Kuchar

Matt Kuchar shot 68 in the first round of the Sony Open in Hawaii but missed the cut after carding 73 on Friday. He sank four bogeys, including three straight on 13, 14, and 15. He could make just one birdie, which came on the final hole of the day.

5) Will Zalatoris

Will Zalatoris was playing his first event in nine months, and the rustiness was visible in his game. He shot 6-over 76 in the first round but then showed a lot of improvement with a second-round 69. He aggregated at 5-over, seven strokes behind the cutline.

6) Kevin Kisner

Last week, Kevin Kisner made his debut as a broadcaster at the Sentry, while this week he played his first event of the season. However, he had to go home early after shooting 75 and 71. This was his first missed cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii since 2014.

7) Gary Woodland

Gary Woodland returned to the PGA Tour after undergoing brain surgery last September. However, he crashed out early after shooting a pair of 71s in the first two rounds at Waialae Country Club.
