Wyndham Clark misses the cut for second straight Major after famously saying "I like my chances" at Augusta National

Wyndham Clark missed the cut at the 2024 PGA Championship after scoring 4 over 146 for the first 36 holes. It is the second consecutive cut in Major championships for Clark and fans have brought back his controversial words at the most recent edition of The Masters.

Clark played his first round at Augusta National with a score of 73, the same day Bryson DeChambeau scored 65 to lead the event. Answering questions about it during his post-round interview, Clark stated that he wasn't worried:

"Yeah, we’ve got 54 holes. In LIV Golf [where DeChambeau currently plays] they only play 54, so I like my chances," Clark said (via SBNation). "We’ve got a lot of golf left. As you can see, someone shot 7-under. I could do that tomorrow."

The next day, Wyndham Clark scored 78 to miss the cut, while DeChambeau scored 73 and remained tied for first place. For that reason, after he missed the cut at the 2024 PGA Championship (second major in a row) several fans have posted the video of those words again.

Wyndham Clark has had several good results during 2024. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, finished second at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship, and third at the RBC Heritage. He has missed only three cuts in 12 tournaments (The Genesis, The Masters, PGA Championship).

A look at Wyndham Clark's performance at the PGA Championship

Wyndham Clark had a solid first round at the PGA Championship. Despite making bogey on the 1st hole, he made birdies on the 4th, 7th and 8th to make the turn at 2 under 33.

The back nine was not as positive, as he only bogeyed the 11th and 17th, with no birdies. His score for the round was even par, which placed him in the thick part of the leaderboard.

The second round was much more demanding for Clark. He played the front nine for even par, with birdies on the first and ninth holes, and bogeys on the fourth and sixth. He bogeyed the 10th, but birdied the 13th and parred the 14th to keep his tournament score at even par, so he could still hope to make the cut.

But on the 14th began Clark's worst moment of the event, as he bogeyed the 15th, double bogeyed the 16th and bogeyed the 17th to end his participation in the PGA Championship with a score of 4 over.

Clark had negative numbers in his short game and his putting. His 'Stoke Gained (SG): Around the green' was -2.291, his 'SG: Approach the green' was -5.039 and his 'SG: Putting' was -3.642. His 'Greens in Regulations percentage' was just 47%, and he hit just 18 of the 28 faiways he played.
