The Mexican Open, also known as the Abierto Mexicano de Golf, is the country's official open golf event, currently held at the Vidanta Vallarta course. It was co-sanctioned by the European Challenge Tour from 2004 to 2006 and was part of the Tour de las Américas from 2003 to 2006. It was first played at the Club de Golf Chapultepec 79 years ago, in 1944.

Rescheduled from December to January, it became a Nationwide Tour event in 2008; hence, there was no tournament held in 2007. The 2009 swine flu outbreak forced a change in the Mexican Open's date from May to September. The tournament was rescheduled for March of 2013 and was approved as a PGA Tour Latinoamérica event.

Additionally, the competition was shifted to Club de Golf Mexico. With a payout of $7,300,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points awarded to the winner, the tournament was officially added to the PGA Tour schedule in 2022.
