Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 will be the next entry in one of the most popular and successful video game franchises. Although Rockstar Games confirmed the sequel's existence in 2022, we have no official word on its release date or other details. Yet, the game continues to be an ever-lasting topic of discussion within the global gaming community.

While we do not know when the game will finally drop, there have been numerous insider reports and leaks that hint toward an early 2025 release window. Even though these reports should be taken with a grain of salt, there are reasons to believe that a 2025 release date for GTA 6 makes sense.

Taking a closer look at why a 2025 release date for GTA 6 makes sense

1) Take-Two earnings call

Take-Two Interactive Software, Rockstar Games' parent company, held an earnings call on May 17, 2023. The gaming industry giants addressed several points at the event, like GTA 5 selling 180 million units, Grand Theft Auto Trilogy's release on Android and iOS, and much more.

However, one of the main takeaways was the announcement of an anticipated $8bn in Net-Bookings during Fiscal Year 2025. While it wasn't mentioned directly, we can assume that the revenue is linked to the sequel's release. Thus, the late 2024 to early 2025 release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 makes sense.

2) Multiple insider reports

Rockstar Games has remained tight-lipped about their upcoming game. Fans have never gone this long between two successive Grand Theft Auto titles, making the wait that much unbearable for many. This has led to data miners and insiders gaining the trust of the player base.

One of the most prominent data miners is Tez2, who, on multiple occasions, has correctly reported GTA Online news ahead of official announcements. According to him, the sequel will most likely be released come Holiday 2024 or early 2025. Gaming Detective, another insider, believes GTA 6 will reportedly come out by 2025.

3) Rockstar premiers trailers at least two years before the release

Rockstar Games likes to drop the first trailer for their new titles at least two years ahead of release. This trend can be spotted in the trailers of their most recent releases, Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR 2) and Grand Theft Auto V. RDR 2's first trailer was released on October 20, 2016, leading to an October 26, 2018 release.

The latter's trailer premiered on November 2, 2011, followed by a September 17, 2013 release. Hence, if GTA 6's first trailer comes out this year, the release date can be expected to be around 2025.

4) Promotional campaign leak

One of the most recent Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks is a letter addressed to Miami's The Guild Downtown, allegedly sent by Paul Swiderski, Take-Two's Channel Marketing Director. The letter contains plans for the sequel's promotional campaign wherein the developers intend to display a poster on the hotel's exterior for a year, beginning late this summer.

The letter's validity is yet to be confirmed. However, if it is genuine, the game's release date can once again be anticipated to be between 2024's second half and 2025.

5) A game this large requires time to be made

Over the years, each new Rockstar Games title has gone leaps and bounds beyond its predecessor. If Red Dead Redemption 2 is any indication, we can only imagine just how grand the scale of GTA 6 is going to be.

However, the problem with games like these is that they require a lot of time to be made. It is 2023, and we are yet to see the first official look at the game. Since it is still seemingly unfinished, a 2025 release date makes sense.
