The Dabangs from Delhi have almost stopped worrying about Surjeet Narwal’s absence. In a recent feature, SportsKeeda had dissected how the inspirational raider had been pivotal to the team’s fortunes last year.
That being said, he hasn’t managed to play one game yet in this season and seldom has there been an obvious void noticed by onlookers. The reason? A certain 24-year-old from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.
Rohit Kumar Chowdhury, a jawan in the Indian Army has been bestowed with the responsibility of filling in Narwal’s boots. Gelling in beautifully, he has made a spot in the starting 7 his own. Even against the Jaipur Pink Panthers, he exhibited exemplary vigour and enthusiasm and was aptly bestowed with the “Best attacker of the match” award.
Talking exclusively to SportsKeeda after the game, Rohit exuded his excitement, “It feels really nice to perform and contribute to a win. This is our 3rd win in 4 games and it’s deeply satisfying. I have been working really hard with coach sir (Honnappa C Gowda) and the team and I are glad that’s showing in my performances.”
Asked about how it’s like to make up for Surjeet’s absence, he said, “It’s not long that he will return, till them I will try my best to ensure the team doesn’t suffer in his absence.”
Even as the team prepares for their next match against the Pirates, the management would know that the now established substitute has emerged into a force himself and if he and Kashiling Adake can pull another one of their characteristic performances, it wouldn’t take much to outperform the hosts and extend their inspiring run.
