Who is Alejandra Rodriguez? 60-year old lawyer makes history by being crowned Miss Universe Bueno Aires

Alejandra Rodriguez, a 60-year-old lawyer and journalist from La Plata in Buenos Aires, Argentina, made history by being crowned Miss Universe Bueno Aires on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

According to the television network El Trece, Rodriguez, who was born in La Plata in 1963, became a journalist right out of high school and later studied law at the UNLP: Universidad Nacional de La Plata. She currently works as a legal advisor at a hospital.

In an industry that has only previously accepted participants between the ages of 18 and 28, Rodriguez broke preconceptions on Wednesday by becoming the first 60-year-old woman to win the championship. She competed against 35 other women and won the title.

Rodriguez was reportedly able to compete in the pageant this year after Miss Universe ruled in 2023 that women between the ages of 18 and 73 were allowed into the competition.

Alejandra Rodriguez will next compete in Miss Universe Argentina in May 2024

Alejandra Rodriguez told El Trece she has her sights set on the Miss Universe Argentina pageant after making history winning the Miss Universe Bueno Aires. Rodriguez credited her lifestyle for her appearance, telling the network she keeps to her diet and works out three times a week.

Alejandra Rodriguez continued she sticks to intermittent fasting and incorporates copious amounts of vegetables and fruits into her diet. She said—

“The basic thing is to have a healthy life, eat well, do physical activity,” she told the outlet. Normal care, nothing too extraordinary and a little genetics." She added, “What I try to do is intermittent fasting, I think that helps a lot. Then I try to eat organic foods, a lot of fruit, a lot of vegetables, and use good creams.”

After winning the pageant she told the press she was thrilled at the prospect of ushering in a new era, where women are not judged for their appearance but are valued for their personality as well.

She added—

“I am thrilled to be representing this new paradigm in beauty pageants because we are inaugurating a new stage in which women are not only physical beauty but another set of values. I am the first of this generation to start with this.”

Alejandra Rodriguez continued the judges were seemingly impressed by her confidence as an older woman and saw she was passionate about representing women of her age and added—

“I think the judges saw my confidence and my passion to represent the women of my generation,” she continued. “I am determined to fight for the crown of Miss Universe Argentina 2024.”

Alejandra Rodriguez, who is vying for the Miss Argentina crown, hopes to compete in Miss Universe. The Miss Universe Argentina Pageant is scheduled for May 2024.

Shortly after, the Miss Universe organization modified its archaic rules and eliminated the age limit, women worldwide have thrown their hats in the ring to secure the title.

Haidy Cruz, a 47-year-old- health coach, and fitness expert, is also competing to represent the Dominican Republic in the Miss Universe 2024 pageant. Cruz, who is a mother of two, told HOLA USA that while she was always fascinated by the pageant world she couldn't pursue her dream as she became a mother at a young age. She said—

“Participating in a beauty pageant always fascinated me. However, due to becoming a mother at a young age, I was never able to make that dream a reality.”

However, the recent rule change offered her an opportunity to pursue her dream. She added—

“Miss Universe, which promotes inclusion, offered me the chance to pursue my dream. My inner voice urged me to go for it, to experience the journey instead of just hearing about it.”
