Conor McGregor News: Conor's legal team files for motion to eliminate Michael Chiesa lawsuit

What's the story?

Conor McGregor's legal team, along with attorney James M. Catterson, has sought after a motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed against him by fellow UFC fighter, Michael Chiesa. The lawsuit filed by Chiesa was in regards to the infamous April bus attack, in Brooklyn, ahead of UFC 223. Chiesa sustained injuries from the dolly that was thrown on the bus by Conor, forcing him to withdraw from his fight at UFC 223.

In case you didn't know...

Conor McGregor last competed in the Octagon against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, in Las Vegas. Leading up to the fight, it was evident amongst fight fans that the two rival camps experienced an intense sense of animosity towards each other. Following the Artem Lobov slapping incident, Conor McGregor flew in from Ireland along with an entourage of men, to settle the score with Khabib.

Michael Chiesa, who unfortunately happened to be inside the bus, suffered from injuries that subsequently led him to withdraw from his UFC 223 fight. Chiesa sued McGregor in September, pressing charges against him for negligence, negligent infliction of emotional distress, assault and battery.

The heart of the matter

Conor McGregor's attorney, James M. Catterson, recently filed a motion to disregard the suit at the New York State Supreme Court. Catterson, however, did not ask for the claims of assault and battery to be lifted in the motion.

Here is McGregor's attorney weighing in on the incident and the situation within the case:

“While the conduct alleged in the complaint is unquestionably inappropriate, it does not approach the rigorous standard of outrageousness as defined by New York courts, therefore further supporting the dismissal of the intentional infliction of emotional distress claim.

“Chiesa, a seasoned combat sports fighter, fails to plead any allegations containing even a scintilla of factual specificity regarding the alleged emotional distress. The two emotional distress causes of action allege only that Defendants ‘caused severe emotion distress, mental trauma, and/or bodily harm to the plaintiff.

The complaint contains no other information supporting these alleged emotional injuries. These boilerplate, unsubstantiated allegations do not adequately plead a claim for emotional distress, and therefore Chiesa’s intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress claims must be dismissed.”

What's next?

Michael Chiesa has expressed his grievances in regards to this case and has brought into the light, the toll this incident has taken on his family. He went on to confess that his family has been receiving nasty messages from fans of 'The Notorious One', which has caused an unrest within his closely knit circle.
