What's the story?

The legal hearing in regards to Conor McGregor's UFC 229 post-fight brawl, has been postponed. The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion was initially expected to present himself for the hearing in Las Vegas, but a request for a continuance in the case has further postponed the judgement.

Conor's UFC 229 counterpart, Khabib Nurmagomedov however, will face his hearing on Monday, as previously scheduled by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

In case you didn't know..

On October 6th, 2018, UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, went on to successfully defend his belt against Conor McGregor at UFC 229. Animosity between the camps was at its peak leading up to the fight, making it rather impossible to predict the happenings of the night.

Shortly after submitting McGregor to a vicious neck crank in the fourth round, Khabib jumped over the cage to unleash an attack on Conor's Jiu-Jitsu coach, Dillon Danis.

Following the scrutinization of videotapes from the fateful night, the Nevada State Athletic Commission decided to indefinitely suspend both fighters. Khabib and Conor were both expected to show for the hearing, this coming Monday, but recent reports suggest otherwise in the case of the Irishman.

The heart of the matter

Former UFC double-division champion, Conor McGregor, was supposed to receive punishment from the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Monday, in respect of his involvement in the UFC 229 post-fight melee.

The official hearing, however, has been postponed to a later date, as a result of McGregor being granted a continuance in the case. Meanwhile, Khabib will be awaiting his hearing on Monday, and it will be interesting to see if his team would opt for a settlement, or a request for a continuance as well.

The postponed hearing in Conor McGregor's case, however, could prove to be detrimental for UFC's business prospects. 'The Notorious One' seems to be all set to take on Dustin Poirier on his return after the suspension, but this match-up may momentarily have to take the back seat.

UFC president, Dana White, was seen weighing in on the matter:

“I have a job to do. I’ve gotta make fights, no matter who’s here and who’s not. I have to make fights, so I will continue to make fights until we find out what the suspensions are and then when the suspensions are laid down, I will still continue to make fights until they come back.”

What's next?

Conor McGregor's temporary hiatus from the UFC may force Dana White to make a few critical business decisions. With the date of the postponed judgement not revealed yet by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, when do you think we can expect to see Conor McGregor back inside the Octagon?
