Former UFC referee John McCarthy believes Derrick Lewis has a good chance of getting the better of Sergey Spivak when the two heavyweights face each other on November 20 at the UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivak event in Las Vegas.

John McCarthy recently sat down with former UFC lightweight contender Josh Thompson on their podcast, Weighing In. McCarthy shared his opinion on the heavyweight matchup stating that he thinks Spivak may be an ideal opponent for Lewis:

"I look at this fight. And I'm being honest when I say it. First off, I love Derrick Lewis. I actually think this is a good fight for Derrick Lewis because Sergey doesn't move his feet that much. He does stand in front of his opponent a lot. He does like to throw and match up power, you don't want to match up power with Derrick Lewis."

'The Black Beast' is currently on a two-fight losing streak suffered against Sergei Pavlovich and Tai Tuivasa. Both losses via knockout. The 37-year-old will be looking to redeem himself against his next opponent, Sergey Spivak.

'Polar Bear', on the other hand, is coming off a win against Augusto Sakai, whom he knocked out in round two back in August. The two heavyweights will go face-to-face for the headliner event at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivak this weekend.

Dan Hardy praises Derrick Lewis' strength and thinks Sergey Spivak will try to grapple him

Dan Hardy recently shared his take on the upcoming heavyweight contest between Lewis and Spivak at the upcoming UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivak this weekend at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Speaking on his podcast, The War Room, the former UFC welterweight gave his breakdown of Lewis vs. Spivak:

"I think the obvious thing is Spivak is going to grapple with him, because it just doesn't seem wise to stand in front of Derrick Lewis knowing full well how dangerous he is at every moment of the fight... You look back at the Curtis Blaydes fight, it was all about the intercepting punch. That's really what he's going to be looking for."

Hardy continued:

"The smartest thing for Spivak to do is take him down and tie up his legs... Spivak is a good grappler."

Lewis is a fighter known for his raw power. With twenty-one out of his twenty-six wins coming via KO/TKO, he is unquestionably one of the UFC's premier knockout artists.

'The Black Beast' holds the record for most knockouts in UFC history. Despite this, Lewis has formed a habit of falling to his own technique, losing seven of his total ten losses via KO/TKO. The No.7-ranked fighter will be looking to get back to winning ways and secure his spot in the top ten of the heavyweight division.
