Francis Ngannou was looking to follow in the footsteps of Conor McGregor, which eventually led to the now-former heavyweight champion's UFC release. McGregor is the only fighter to have stepped out for a crossover boxing fight whilst being signed to the UFC, an opportunity that was denied to Ngannou.

Ngannou, in a special episode of The MMA Hour, recently revealed the details of his offer to the UFC that was turned down. McGregor suggested that 'The Predator' should get himself the right representation, which essentially means a change in management.

'The Notorious' went on to promote Paradigm Sports management, the firm which represents him and is owned by his close associate Audie Attar. Reacting to Ngannou's comments, the Irishman wrote on his Instagram Stories:

"Correct representation is imperative. Seek @paradigmsports"

Ngannou's former manager Marquel Martin cut ties with his previous firm CAA after they shifted their focus to Hollywood. While Martin briefly represented Ngannou, 'The Predator' was without a manager in the final days of his failed UFC contract negotiations.

Francis Ngannou claims to be "at peace" with his decision

UFC head honcho Dana White claimed that Francis Ngannou turned down an offer that would make him the highest paid heavyweight in UFC history. 'The Predator', however, refused to believe such abstract statements, claiming to have no data on other heavyweight deals in UFC history.

Ngannou also admittedly laid down a list of other demands like healthcare and sponsorships, but did not expect them all to be met. However, the negotiations failed as the UFC seemingly did not consider any of his demands.

Having achieved more than he could have ever imagined, the former UFC champion felt himself to be in a position to take a stance that would have an impact on posterity. Seemingly at peace with his decision, the 36-year-old said on The MMA Hour:

“I’m happy. I’m happy. I’m at peace with my choice, my decision, whatever I have done. I need some more respect at least. It’s very important. I need some respect, I need some freedom, I need to feel like a man. Own my freedom, control my destiny. Decide what I’m going to do. I don’t want anybody to decide for me. I’m think I’m made enough to decide for my own.”
