Dana White talks how media's "selective outrage" impacted Power Slap League

Dana White isn't happy about all the criticism the Power Slap League has received since its debut. The UFC president recently laid into the media for their "selective outrage" about the new sporting league and sarcastically thanked them for the Streisand effect that it had on the popularity of Slap Fighting.

Since the Power Slap League debuted in January, the 53-year-old businessman has come under fire from combat sports fans, doctors, and journalists for calling brutality a sport and giving it a televised platform.

The sport involves contestants slapping each other as hard as possible without intelligently defending themselves, which puts them at risk of brain damage, trauma, and Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

Dana White recently spoke to the media in a pre-fight press conference ahead of the Power Slap 1 finale.

Referencing standup comic Chris Rock's new special 'Selective Outrage,' White condemned the media for turning a blind eye towards Logan Paul and Arnold Schwarzenegger's unregulated slapping contest. He stated:

"The media has been incredible through this thing... Selective outrage, that's what's happened here at Power Slap... Logan Paul and Arnold Schwarzenegger had a slap event unregulated, no medicals, no nothing... Nobody said boo... We do the right thing, and everybody is outraged... You guys have helped me build this thing into a monster."

Power Slap League: Dana White on why his new combat sports venture is widely criticized

Dana White recently shared his thoughts on why the Power Slap League has caught so much heat since its inception and revealed it has something to do with him.

While the sport of power slapping is prevalent in Eastern Europe and parts of the Middle East, the majority of combat sports fans around the world have recognized the danger it poses compared to its counterparts. The Power Slap League, in particular, involves two competitors slapping each other until one gets knocked out or concedes.

Needless to say, White's new business venture caught a lot of flak. Many health experts have condemned Power Slap amidst concerns about fighters' health. However, the UFC supremo believes the condemnation is specifically aimed at him.

In an interview with Bussin' With The Boys, Dana White outlined why power slapping is denounced by the media:

"Everything that’s negative that’s being said about it is an attack on me. It’s me that these guys are attacking, it’s not the actual slapping. The media, it’s all about me. Okay? They want to f**k me. That’s why they’re saying what they’re saying about the slap."
