Anthony Smith recently claimed that Dustin Poirier will seize the opportunity to fight Conor McGregor for the fourth time if given the chance.

Dustin Poirier has now shared the octagon thrice with the Irishman. The latest chapter in their history came at UFC 264, where the Irishman succumbed to a TKO loss via doctor's stoppage owing to a broken leg.

Since then, Poirier has made strong claims that he won't entertain a fourth fight against Conor McGregor. However, if the recent Twitter exchange between the pair is to be believed, a quadrilogy could be on the horizon for both the combatants.

Reacting to the verbal fencing on a recent episode of the Believe You Me podcast, Anthony Smith claimed that Poirier would jump on the opportunity to fight McGregor a fourth time given the hefty paycheck that comes with sharing the octagon with the UFC's biggest star:

"We all know the prize tag that comes with a Conor McGregor fight... so you can say all you want, 'Oh! I don't want it.' I love Dustin Poirier, I love everything he stands for... Dustin's full of s**t."

Smith further added that many people, him included, would tune in to watch them compete again:

"He's going to take that paycheck any chance he gets. I'm here to watch it, I'll buy it and I'll put money in his pocket. I'm here for it. Just for the buildup."

When Dustin Poirier closed the door on a fourth fight against Conor McGregor

Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor recently engaged in a heated Twitter exchange, opening the doors to a potential fourth fight between the two in the future.

Nearly six years after losing to Conor McGregor in a featherweight bout in 2014, 'The Diamond' ran it back with the power-punching Irishman at UFC 257, knocking him out in the second round to exact his revenge.

Six months later, the pair met again at UFC 264. The fight ended in an anticlimatic fashion when the bout was stopped owing to McGregor's leg injury.

During an appearance at the UFC 271 media scrum earlier this year, Poirier claimed that he was not too keen on chasing a fourth fight against Conor McGregor:

"I’m probably not going to fight Conor again. I don’t really want to fight Conor again. For me, that door is closed. The only reason I’d do it is for money. I beat him two times in a row. Can I best my two performances? Can I knock him out quicker? Can I 10-7 him? What can I do? I’ve done it. If I do it again, it’s just for money, right? So that’s a completely different thing.”
