Gordon Ryan, who was enlisted to join Jon Jones for his training camp ahead of his originally scheduled clash with Stipe Miocic at UFC 295, has dismissed Islam Makhachev's No.1 pound-for-pound claim.

Following Makhachev's win over then-P4P king Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 this past February, the lightweight champion remained at No.2 on the rankings, below 'The Great'.

When Jones returned the following month at UFC 285 and submitted Ciryl Gane in one round, 'Bones' replaced Volkanovski atop the promotion's P4P rankings.

Islam Makhachev once again faced off against 'The Great' in last weekend's main event at UFC 294, with the pair ranked No.3 and No.2 on the P4P list, respectively.

Makhachev won the fight via KO in the first round and many crowned him the new P4P king in the UFC. But the rankings panel disagreed and placed him at No.2, one position beneath Jon Jones.

The lightweight champion then shared his displeasure at being placed at No.2, prompting Gordon Ryan to defend the position of Jon Jones.

'The King' took to Instagram and shared the following message:

"My honest, unbiased opinion. I don't know how you can place Islam as P4P best right now. He beat champion of the division below him in stunning fashion and is absolutely incredible as a fighter... That being said, @jonnybones going up a weigh class,, after a massive layoff, to face a champion... and absolutely crushing him in a similar fashion, when the champion had a full camp, and wasn;t a late replacement. To me that's far more convincing. Both have very similar records as well, but Jon hasn't lost."

Gordon Ryan blasted by Bellator champ for encouraging PED usage in MMA

Following news of the UFC's split with USADA, some believed that the promotion would no longer be drug testing their athletes.

Gordon Ryan shared his thoughts on the potential for UFC fighters to use performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). He stated that the sport would become exponentially more popular if fighters took steroids.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu star competes in a sport that seldom drug tests any of the competitors, and Ryan has recently started opening up about his own usage of PEDs.

Following Gordon Ryan's comments about the potential for steroids in MMA, Bellator middleweight champion Johnny Eblen took to Instagram to send a message to 'The King'.

He said this:

"Hey bro, there’s a reason your health sucks and it has a lot to do with you wanting to be an 'entertainer'... One thing is taking steroids when you grapple, and another is when you’re getting punched, kneed, elbowed and kicked in the face..."
