Jorge Masvidal claims Jordan Peterson helped him recover from a ‘dark place’ post Kamaru Usman KO loss at UFC 261

Jorge Masvidal overcame depression by watching Jordan Peterson’s YouTube videos.

After fighting professionally 49 times, Masvidal was knocked out cold for the first time against Kamaru Usman at UFC 261. ‘Gamebred’ took off for nearly a year and a half before returning to the Octagon against Colby Covington.

The Miami native recently appeared on the JRE MMA Show and had this to say about the mental effects of getting knocked out by Usman:

“I’m not gonna lie, I went into like a dark place for a while because, like I said, I had never been knocked out, it was just f*cking nuts to me… It wasn’t like a you stopped it early."

"I knew in my heart of hearts that this guy knocked me out, and for me to think Usman is the one to knock me out, I never would’ve bet that this guy would’ve knocked me out. It affected me, bro, bad.”

Rogan responded by asking Masvidal if he sought assistance from any sports psychologists. ‘Gamebred’ referenced Peterson by saying:

“I just listen to Jordan Peterson on YouTube. That’s my dude right there for many many years. I haven’t gotten a chance [to meet him]. By coincidence, he’s in Florida on April 9."

"I’m doing everything in my power to make sure I’m there like right after my fight. I’m gonna go, he’s gonna have a conference… I gotta go. I just wanna sit in the crowd and listen to this dude.”

Peterson is a Canadian psychology professor with 6.63 million YouTube subscribers for his informative videos. The 60-year-old is also a best-selling author for his 2018 novel called “12 Rules for Life.”

Jorge Masvidal believes he would earn a welterweight title shot with a win against Gilbert Burns

Jorge Masvidal’s next fight will be against Gilbert Burns on April 8. The highly-anticipated welterweight matchup will go down in the co-main event of UFC 287, which takes place in Masvidal’s hometown of Miami.

During the same interview with Joe Rogan, ‘Gamebred’ had this to say about potentially earning a title shot with a win:

"I would skip Colby’s b*tch a*s, yeah, for sure. Leon [Edwards] wants it more than anything. He wants it more than anything just for the history that we have and also we’re gonna sell the most pay-per-views if me and him are in that cage.”

After weighing in as the UFC 286 main event backup, Colby Covington was declared the next welterweight title contender by Dana White. With that said, there is an argument for Jorge Masvidal vs. Leon Edwards being a more intriguing matchup because of their history. Before focusing on a title shot, ‘Gamebred’ must get through Burns, who is never an easy opponent.
