The 2022 MVP award was Patrick Mahomes' second one of his illustrious NFL career while adding another Super Bowl MVP to his resume in February. Winning the award is the dream of any player entering the NFL, including Colts star Anthony Richardson.

While speaking with The Athletic, Richardson was asked who he would've voted for the award. The former Florida Gators quarterback looked no further than the quarterback whom Mahomes faced in Super Bowl 57:

"Jalen Hurts. That man is a dog. This man was going crazy the whole season, leading his team (and) being a great dude, being a great player, of course. Just him being himself — he’s a dog. I would have voted for him a thousand times."

Jalen Hurts finished second behind Patrick Mahomes in the MVP voting as the Philadelphia Eagles star had a great 2022 season. The former Heisman Trophy winner threw for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions in 15 starts last season. Hurts' 101.5 passer rating was the fourth-highest in the NFL.

He also showed off his abilities outside the pockets, rushing for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns. Hurts tied for the second-most rushing touchdowns in the league in 2022.

In the end, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback had a slighty better season, leading the NFL in passing yards (5,250) and touchdowns (41). He was second in passer rating at 105.2.

Anthony Richardson could find himself as the Indianapolis Colts starter to enter the season and become a contender for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Way-too-early predictions for 2023 MVP

The 2023 season could give fans many options as to who will win the honor this upcoming season. It starts with Mahomes and Hurts at the top of that list given their efforts last season. Josh Allen will definitely see himself as a possible contender while he'll be facing a four-time league MVP in Aaron Rodgers twice this season.

Staying in the AFC, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert and Tua Tagovailoa have an offense capable enough to give them a chance. Could it be the season where we see a rookie take it home like Richardson, Bryce Young or Bijan Robinson? Time will tell as the race will be a crowded one this season.
