Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa skipped majority of offseason activities amid contract negotiations holdup: report

Tua Tagovailoa is eligible for the first major extension of his NFL career this offseason. The Miami Dolphins quarterback's rookie contract expires at the end of the 2024 NFL season, and it's common practice for QBs to get extensions ahead of their last year under contract.

However, the Miami Dolphins haven't said anything about the contract renewal, and Tua Tagovailoa is reportedly making moves to steer their hand. According to reports, Tagovailoa has been absent for most voluntary offseason work since the Dolphins reported on April 15.

This is an anomaly, as Tagovailoa has attended most voluntary offseason workouts since he was drafted by the Dolphins in 2020. It seems like Tagovailoa and his team are fed up with the Dolphins' alleged reluctance to offer him a long-term deal.

Tua Tagovailoa had a career year in 2023

This comes after Tua Tagovailoa had a career year in the 2023 NFL season. The Alabama Crimson Tide product led the NFL in passing yards with a career-high 4,624 yards, and he earned his first Pro Bowl selection in the process.

Perhaps the most impressive feat was Tagovailoa playing and starting all 17 games of the regular season, a first for the Ewa Beach, Hawaii-born star. This silenced all the sceptics who wondered whether he could play a complete season without dealing with major injury issues.

What to expect from Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins in 2024

We expect Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins to build on their momentum from the 2023 NFL season. The Dolphins were one of the league's most exciting offensive teams under the guidance of head coach Mike McDaniel.

The franchise was dumped out of the playoffs in the wildcard round by the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. However, that's nothing to be ashamed of as the Chiefs enter the 2024 season with three-peat aspirations.

Tagovailoa's form will be key to the Dolphins' having another playoff-caliber season in 2024, and the sooner the franchise sorts out his contract issue, the better
