Former NFL QB claims Raiders’ plan was destroyed by Tom Brady’s retirement

The Las Vegas Raiders will enter next season with a new quarterback. The team released nine-year starter Derek Carr in early February, moving on from the four-time Pro Bowler.

The team will have a big task in finding his replacement.

The Raiders were hopeful that Tom Brady wouldn't retire and had legitimate interest in signing him.

On "Good Morning Football," former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf said that they're now "in limbo" due to Carr's release and not having the chance at signing Brady.

"I've been on record. I thought this was a mistake," Leaf said. "I think Derek Carr wasn't the problem in Las Vegas, at all. But they did what they did, and now they're in limbo. I think they were hoping maybe Aaron Rodgers. I know they were hoping Tom Brady, and Tom Brady chose to retire.

"So, the next one that has some familiarity with Josh McDaniels' offense is Jimmy Garoppolo, a guy we were just talking about. Can they get him in maybe a lower price, put him with some of those great wide receivers in Hunter Renfroe, Mack Hollins, Davante Adams, as well as Darren Waller. That's pretty special. They get Josh Jacobs back.

"That offense can be potent."

While Brady may not be an option at quarterback for the Raiders, there are still many quarterbacks they can and will probably go after.

There are many quarterbacks the Raiders will evaluate this offseason.

Following Carr's release, the Raiders have the fourth-most cap space with about $48 million this season. They'll have the money to spend on a quarterback, but it may be hard acquiring one.

Lamar Jackson and Daniel Jones are the two best free-agent quarterbacks but could reach long-term deals with their teams.

Aaron Rodgers could stay in Green Bay, retire, or be traded to a team of his choice that could possibly not be the Raiders.

The Raiders hold the No. 7 pick in the draft, which is high considering it's a deep quarterback draft class with teams possibly taking some before them.

Las Vegas could always trade up a few spots to ensure they draft a franchise QB they're comfortable with.
