JFK's niece Maria Shriver issues rebuttal over Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker's "demeaning" commencement speech

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker went viral for his controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College. Many fans and celebrities called out Butker for his words, disapproving of what was said.

In a recent Twitter post, JFK's niece Maria Shriver broke down her opinion about Butker's speech, referring to it as 'demeaning' toward women, and even the LGBTQ+ community.

After her curiosity piqued after hearing the speech, Shriver made sure to listen carefully before sharing her opinion on social media.

"He also took a swipe at the LGBTQ community," Shriver wrote. "Look, everyone has the right to free speech in our country. That's the benefit of living in a democracy. But those of us who are women and who have a voice have the right to disagree with Harrison Butker".

Further elaborating on Butker's statement on women, Shriver added:

"As a woman who has leaned into my vocation of living a meaningful life and working inside and outside the home to not only raise good humans but also raise up our country in various ways, I think it's demeaning to women to imply that their choices outside of wife and motherhood pale in comparison to that of homemaker".

According to Shriver, it took revolutions for women to get the right to vote and more, stating that the list is endless.

While she agreed everyone should have their opinion, Shriver (also the former First Lady of California) suggested Butker to speak with someone with a better knowledge of women in 2024 before proceeding with his thoughts.

Former Chiefs cheerleader took shots at Harrison Butker's comments

Of course, Maria Shriver isn't the only one who called out Butker over the past few days.

Stefanie Hills, a former Chiefs cheerleader, took to TikTok to call out Butker's comments at Benedictine College, a Catholic school in Arkansas.

Speaking about working with the Chiefs, Hills wondered if they went to the same PR training.

“And anything you say or do that doesn’t align with that brand … will be grounds for termination. Not entirely sure if that last part is gonna apply to you but I guess we’ll find out,” Hills added.

Asking Butker to stay in his lane, Hills advised him to listen to his own words.

Kelly Stafford and Allison Kuch are a few others who have reacted to Butker's speech on social media.
