NFL analyst expects Aaron Rodgers to return for 2023

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will continue to play on in 2023, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Packers star has come under severe scrutiny this season for his performances as Green Bay sits at 3-6 with its season on life-support.

Such has been the downward spiral of Rodgers' form, some have thought that this could be his last season in the NFL. After being 50/50 on retiring in 2021, could this be the last season for the 38-year-old? Pelissero doesn't think so.

Pelissero filled in for Rich Eisen on The Rich Eisen Show and said that the Packers star has strong financial motives to not retire after this season.

“He's got 60 million fully guaranteed reasons to not retire after this season. That's the money he's due in 2023 on what was, in essence, a two-year deal. Now, to the extent that what you're saying, he doesn't look like Aaron Rodgers on the field, a big part of that, from what I've understood, is just the the lack of trust with the wide receivers.

Pelissero further detailed what he means by Rodgers' lack of trust in his receivers.

"He's not trusting to throw the ball down the field. When he does throw the ball down the field, he's not hitting. He's missing those throws. He's missing some layups. But the throw to Bakhtiari in the end zone on that play, Bakhtiari is wide open. It's a tackle eligible play and he throws it five yards short. It's just, it's not anything that we've seen in the past from Aaron Rodgers.”

The $60 million guaranteed next season is certainly a good reason to keep playing. But depending on how the remainder of this season goes, the 38-year-old may have a decision to make this offseason.

In today's world when making as much money as people can is job number one, with Rodgers, that $60 million is worth doing just about anything to get it.

Regardless of how the team goes this season, the lure of the $60 million will surely mean that the 38-year-old will be back in 2023. They say money is a great motivator.

Aaron Rodgers and Packers face red-hot Cowboys on Sunday

If the Packers were looking for an easy game to break their five-game losing streak, they got their worst nightmare. They are up against a Dallas Cowboys team fully rested after the bye and a defense, led by Micah Parsons, that has averaged four sacks a game and is only giving up 16.6 points per game.

Despite being at Lambeau, the Cowboys are heavy favorites to improve to 7-2 and to essentially end Green Bay's chance of contending this season (if it wasn't over already).

Despite all the bad things that have happened to the Packers in 2022, Tom Pelissero thinks the 38-year-old four-time NFL MVP will stick around next season. Why wouldn't he when there is $60 million on the table?
