Where did the Derrick Henry to Cowboys trade rumors come from? Exploring origin and likelihood of bombshell move

Is there a chance that the Tennessee Titans could trade or move on from All-Pro running back Derrick Henry?

Rumors started off with the team shopping Derrick Henry earlier this off-season. The 29-year-old back has been one of the best running backs in the last five years, but he may start to wear down.

Running backs typically tend to wear down around 29, and Henry has led the league in rush attempts in three of the last four seasons.

There were rumors tying the Cowboys to potentially acquiring the two-time All-Pro running back. They moved on from veteran Ezekiel Elliott and tagged Tony Pollard, who may not be ready for the start of the season due to an ankle sprain and fractured fibula in the NFC Divisional game.

ESPN writer Bill Barnwell predicted that the Cowboys would like to add a veteran running back entering the season and it could be Derrick Henry if the team decides to move on from him.

Barnwell wrote:

"If it's not Elliott, the Cowboys could look toward a market that still includes Leonard Fournette, Latavius Murray, an Kareem Hunt unsigned. There's also a chance expensive veterans such as Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook could be released after the draft."
"Dallas could add a rookie in the April's draft, but Pollard's uncertain status for Week 1 leads me to believe the team would probably prefer to have a more experienced back on the roster."

The Tennessee Titans will likely hold onto RB Derrick Henry

According to Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon, the team will not trade Derrick Henry. Carthon said during the NFL league meetings via ESPN that the report of them shopping Henry was erroneous and that the two sides are in a good place.

He said:

"There's nothing new to report. There was an erroneous report that came out. I've spoken to Todd, Derrick's representative, and we're in a good place. So, there's nothing new to report from there. ... I feel like we're in a good place."

It wouldn't make the most sense to move on from Henry as he is set to be an unrestricted free agent next season.

If Tennessee doesn't plan on re-signing Henry, then maybe it would make sense for the team to try to get a draft pick in return for him, but they would likely get a compensation pick in return for him signing elsewhere.

Do you think Derrick Henry will be on another roster this season?
