Pokemon GO made waves when Niantic announced the new raid system known as Shadow Raids, in which trainers will battle against Shadow Pokemon that grow progressively more enraged. When the raids make their way to the mobile title on May 22, 2023, Shadow Croconaw will be among the first Shadow Raid bosses to be released.

As a 3-star Shadow Raid boss, Croconaw won't be as tough to beat as Shadow Mewtwo, the first 5-star boss of the new raid format. However, it may still be tricky to beat for newer Pokemon GO players or those who may be unfamiliar with the new rage mechanic introduced in Shadow Raids.

Whatever the case, Pokemon GO players can still defeat Shadow Croconaw with the right team of capable counters.

Even though Shadow Croconaw is a formidable foe in this new raid format, it's still a creature that isn't fully evolved in Pokemon GO and is also a Water-type that should be pretty straightforward to counter.

As a mono Water-type creature, Croconaw is only weak to Electric and Grass-type attacks/Pokemon. However, Electric and Grass-type species aren't hard to find in the mobile title. Be that as it may, some Pocket Monsters and moves will be much more effective counters to Croconaw than others, which is something to take into account.

It's also important to note that as a Shadow Pokemon in this raid format, Croconaw receives a bonus to its damage output while reducing its overall defense stat. Since this is the case, the right counters can deal heavy damage to Shadow Croconaw and defeat it quickly. This is ideal, as Shadow Raid bosses' rage mechanic sees their attack and defense stats increase over the course of the battle, and Pokemon GO trainers can only negate this effect with Purified Gems.

In addition to using the right counters, Pokemon GO players may want to stockpile a few Purified Gems. These can be assembled by combining Shadow Shards, which can be collected from defeating various members of Team GO Rocket. Collecting healing items like Potions and Revives is also recommended, as you may sustain quite a bit of damage to your team of Pokemon even if they counter Shadow Croconaw.

Having healing items on standby will help you revive any fainted Pocket Monsters and heal them back into full strength, ensuring that you keep your team of counters in good shape for the entire Shadow Raid.
