Shadow Raids have finally come to Pokemon GO! Starting with the second generation of starter Pokemon, players can challenge these new Shadow Raid Bosses for the chance to get their hands on these new and rare varieties of the many different creatures in the franchise. As some may not know, Niantic starting with the Johto region Starter Pokemon for its new Shadow Raid Battles is a neat reference to Pokemon Colosseum, as they were some of the first original Shadow Pokemon seen in the franchise.

For those who did play those games, this is the choice of first-round Raid Bosses. However, there are bound to be a lot of new or inexperienced players who want to participate in these raids, but they do not know where to start. Thankfully, raids become quite easy to prepare for with enough game knowledge and experience. So what should players know about the new Quilava Raid Boss in Pokemon GO?

The first thing every player should know before they attempt a new Raid Boss is its elemental typing. In the case of Quilava, it is a pure Fire-type critter. This means that it is suceptible to Water, Rock, and Ground-type attacks. Since there is a potential that it will bring in its moveset, trainers should only take Water and Ground-types.

In terms of Quilava's stat spread in Pokemon GO, the creature hosts a considerable amount of attack and stamina for an unevolved Pokemon. As such, players should aim to bring their best creatures that can spam Charged Attacks as its low defense leaves it vulnerable to Burst Damage.

With this in mind, we can analyze some of the best counters that trainers can bring to take down Shadow Quilava in Pokemon GO. Despite being a Rock-type, Regirock is one of the best choices thanks to its ability to spam super-effective Charged Attacks at Quilava using Lock-On.

Aside from Regirock, there are tons of other great and far more common choices. Swampert is one of the better picks thanks to its type combination and access to Hydro Cannon. Dugtrio and Marowak are two other more common choices that perform well in this Shadow Raid Battle, thanks to their defensive type advantages.

Since this Shadow Raid Battle features an unevolved Pokemon, players with the right counters will be more than capable of taking it out by themselves. However, for those who may be new to the raiding scene, bringing one other person just in case is always a great idea. Trainers will just need to be prepared by bringing the right counters.

Overall, these new Shadow Raids seem to be a great deal of new content for raid players to enjoy in Pokemon GO. By including some well-beloved creatures in the first round of Shadow Raid Bosses, the community will be excited for what the feature will bring next. Starting with Quilava and friends is a great indication for what these new battles may hold for dedicated players.
