The 2023 Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards, originally scheduled to be held last September, were postponed to January this year owing to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. After much delay, the award presentation is all set to take place on January 15, 2024. It will air exclusively on FXX (Fox) and will also be available to stream on Hulu, the next day.

But the January 15 ceremony will not be the first Primetime Emmys handed out this year. Notably, the Creative Arts Emmys were presented last weekend on January 6 and 7 in a two-night ceremony. The accolades honored artistic and technical achievements in various television genres including reality, variety, documentary series, specials, and animated shows.

Though it wasn’t the main TV event, the ceremony awarded some of the beloved TV shows and events including The Last of Us, Succession, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Queer Eyes, and Wednesday.

Why were the 2023 Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards postponed?

In 2023, Hollywood witnessed a historic work stoppage spear-headed by writers and actors, which resulted in a rare delay of four months for the 2023 Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards. Originally, the award function was set to broadcast in September 2023.

However, the protesting actors and writers approved the new strike-ending contract in December 2023 putting the Emmys to take place in January 2024.

The delay was the first time the Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards was postponed since 2001 when the harrowing 9/11 attacks came just five days before the planned ceremony. The award function was put on hold until November of that year.

Tune into Fox to watch the 2023 Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards on January 15. The award function will be available the following day on Hulu.
