WWE’s signing of KENTA has underlined their aim of winning over the Japanese market in which other promotions like TNA and Ring of Honor have found a strong foothold. Having a well-established name like KENTA in the roster is a big advantage for Vince McMahon’s promotion over his competition but apparently the job is only half done. In the past also, WWE have signed big names like KENTA only to mess them up with some terrible booking. As a lot of expectation rides on KENTA, the creative team should be careful about how they handle him. So here is a look at some of the best ways in which the WWE could book KENTA in order to make sure that he delivers the purpose of his big signing.
#5 Making him the NXT Champion
Despite being a superstar who is recognizable all over the world, the WWE is going to let KENTA start his career in their developmental territory, NXT.
He will have a lot of time to brush his shoulder with names like Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn and many more which is an exciting prospect, but if the WWE wants to do big things with KENTA, they should project him as a champion.
Names like Seth Rollins, Big E and Bo Dallas have shown that the NXT title is a quick way in to the main roster and with the WWE Network in place, NXT is having some great international exposure which is the best circumstance for KENTA to flourish as the NXT champion.
He could be introduced to the main roster fans slowly after this and put into another title picture when he finally reaches there.
#4 A Tag team with a well-polished in ring performer
The WWE’s tag team division is something which is at a standstill now. Apart from Wyatt Family and the Usos, there aren’t many teams which could represent the division when it comes to tight situation.
However, if the company is able to find a suiting partner for KENTA, then they could end up having a credible team in the division which depends solely on in ring performance instead of gimmick. The possible names to pair up with KENTA are many but Tyson Kidd in particular could be the best choice.
Also, if the company wants to promote another NXT name into main roster with KENTA, Zayn or Adrian Neville would be fitting as the combination of a high flying and powerful mat wrestler is going to give the fans a lot to cheer about.
#3 An international Authority rebel
The Authority has been reigning as the top heel in WWE for a long time now, and this has left the company in such an atmosphere where any superstar going against the Authority would end up getting over with the fans.
So far, names like Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns has reaped the benefits of this and if the company is planning to push KENTA as a big star, there wouldn’t be a better way to do it.
KENTA coming from Japan makes the angle more effective as the company has found some kind of success whenever they put Japanese stars in an underdog situation.
Hunter and KENTA going head to head might not sound big, but if KENTA is backed by someone like Sting or Hulk Hogan this could end up being a big angle for the WWE.
#2 A Ring of Honor stable
Stables have been a main stay in the WWE roster recently. Teams like Shield, Wyatt Family and the Real Americans have found success in a situation like these and members of all those factions managed to establish their space in the roster.
Having Kenta in such a situation would help him get familiar with the fans and the other way around as well ensuring his long stay in the main roster.
A stable consisting of some former Ring of honor stars would be a great angle as it would give the fans some glimpse of the attitude Era that they still have feelings for. They could also take shots at Ring of honor safely ensuring an entertaining rivalry.
#1 A Masked gimmick
To be frank, KENTA is someone who doesn’t need a mask to get over in the WWE. However, the failure of Japanese wrestlers in the company might end up making KENTA a masked superstar.
Right now, Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara are the two wrestler who wear masks in the WWE and the former has been out of the ring for a long time. Sin Cara apparently is not getting any kind of push due to one reason or the other.
KENTA under the mask would be a whole different story. He might not be a high flier like other performers, but he knows how to give a hard hitting match. WWE could also have their merchandise sales boosted with a new masked gimmick.
If taking over Japan is the aim that WWE has right now, the first thing they should do is to feature KENTA regularly which does not depend on whether he wears a mask or not.
