5 most anti-Cena crowds in the WWE Universe

John CenaSeeing a split audience in arenas when it comes to John Cena is nothing surprising. No matter where WWE goes, there will be a portion of the crowd which chants ‘Let’s go Cena’ while the other portion will chant ‘Cena sucks’. But in some places, the arena would be filled with Anti-Cena fans. And for a neutral, these Anti-Cena crowds provide pretty funny moments. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the chants and reactions that come against Cena. The way in which Cena’s character refuses to revolve, the lack of talents that Cena buried (according to his haters), so on and so forth. But keeping all these apart, here are some of the crowds that gave Cena a treatment that he will have nightmares about.

The 2006 Unforgiven pay-per-view saw a WWE Championship match between John Cena and Edge. It was one part of their legendary feud and according to the stipulation of the match if Cena lost; he had to sign with SmackDown. Being the baby face, Cena expected to get a warm welcome at the show, but there was one problem.

The pay-per-view was held in Edge’s hometown of Toronto. The fans were in no mood to cheer the baby face and rallied behind their hometown hero. Cena was jeered throughout the match and his win added more intensity to the fan chants. And if you thought Cena goes not get booed in his hometown, think again.

WrestleMania 28 saw an epic encounter between Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and John Cena. Two of the biggest names in the business locked horns in between the ropes and gave the fans a memorable bout although it was far from being a technical marvel. Cena lost the match and next night on Raw, he was expecting a warm welcome.

The crowd in Miami had a mind of their own. They were in no mood to appreciate Cena for the match he delivered last night and instead, they did everything they could to make their displeasure clear. And when Brock Lesnar made his return and took out Cena with an F-5, the fans had something to cheer about.

#3 Chicago (2011)

Chicago has a reputation for being vocal. Fans there are known to express their feelings without any boundaries and at the 2011 Money in the Bank match, it was no different. To make matters worse for Cena, he was facing the hometown boy CM Punk. So basically, fans had two reasons to jeer Cena. The match came after the infamous pipe bomb of Punk with which he won over the entire WWE universe.

Both Cena and CM Punk delivered a classic match and thanks to this, most of the antics by the fans down there were overshadowed. At the end of the day, we remembered the match instead of the fans reacting to John Cena, which was a good thing.

#2 Boston (2012)

Cena is one of the biggest names in the wrestling business. He has been there and done it all and almost every town would be happy to have him on board. And his hometown in particular should be proud about what he went on to achieve. But unfortunately for Cena, his hometown is hostile towards him.

Instead of appreciating what he has done and the efforts he puts into the business, his home town of Boston shows no mercy whatsoever towards the Cenation Leader. They bombard him with boos and chant whenever he appears, and seeing Cena getting jeered by his hometown fans is one of those moments where you would actually feel bad for the guy.

#1 New York ECW Fans (2006)

If you thought that the fans down in Chicago are vocal, wait till you hear the Original hardcore ECW fans. They were the epitome of wrestling fandom. If they loved something they would show it and if they hated something, they would make sure that it never happened again. At the 2006 One Night Stand pay-per-view, the ECW fans took it to a different level.

There were signs that said ‘if Cena wins we riot’ in the arena and there was a legitimate scare for Cena’s well-being. He got a lot of heat throughout his match which included brutal chants that were too vulgar to be shown on live TV. The match was against Rob Van Dam and since RVD won the match, Cena was able to get out of the arena without many risks for his health.
